Coachella first weekend with The Black Madonna, Black Coffee and more

The first weekend of Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival has offiacially ended, and we can state that this 19th edition is not a disappointment! The annual spring music festival always takes place at Empire Polo Club in IndioCalifornia. This year it has been held from April 13th to 15th and next week from April 20th to 22nd.

Headlining the event are the super stars Beyoncé, The Weeknd, and Eminem. Headlining the electronic arena though, the likes of Black Coffee, Kölsch, Chromeo, Maceo Plex, Chris Liebing, Joseph Capriati, Carl Craig, Kyle Hall, Moodymann, Peggy Gou (making her debut at the Indio festival), The Black Madonna and many more!

For this edition, the festival decided to pay respect to the birthplace of the house and techno genre inviting Detroit Love legendary trio, with dancefloor experimentalist and top Detroit techno producer Carl Craig, Kyle Hall, and Moodymann.

The Black Madonna performance brought her provocative acid house, disco, and her philosophy: “Dance music needs riot grrrls. Dance music needs Patti Smith. It needs DJ Sprinkles. Dance music needs some discomfort with its euphoria. Dance music needs salt in its wounds. Dance music needs women over the age of 40. Dance needs breastfeeding DJs trying to get their kids to sleep before they have to play. Dance needs cranky queers and teenagers who are really tired of this shit. Dance music needs writers and critics and academics and historians. Dance music needs poor people and people who don’t have the right shoes to get into the club. Dance music needs shirts without collars. Dance music needs people who struggled all week. Dance music needs people that had to come before midnight because they couldn’t afford full admission. Dance music does not need more of the status quo.

Coachella will be streaming most of the artists performing during this passed first weekend, including the great South African record producer and DJ Black Coffee, who played on April 13th, partecipating at Coachella for the second time, and incredible duo Chromeo, featuring all the classics but also new crazy material.
